Bio | Ceramic Sculpture

Sophie Brennan Carlisle is a sculptor working primarily in ceramics. She earned her BFA in Sculpture from Boston University in 1993, where she studied within a classically figurative program. During the 1990s, she worked at Hasbro Toy Inc., gaining experience in commercial design before shifting her focus exclusively to ceramics in 2001.

Sophie’s work is deeply personal and often explores themes of feminine embodiment and the mind-body connection. Her practice is informed by a childhood spent living in various countries, as well as by her love of nature.

Now based in the Chicagoland area, Sophie has begun actively exhibiting her work, including being juried into the Bridgeport Art Center's 10th and 12th Annual Competitions. She also teaches Ceramic Sculpture at the Evanston Art Center (EAC), where she shares her passion for clay and form with new artists.
